PETER EDELMANN began his musical studies with his father, renowned opera basso Otto Edelmann and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in his hometown Vienna, Austria, where he graduated summa cum laude. He made his debut at the Theater Koblenz, Germany as the Herrufer in Lohengrin. In 1989 he won First Prize and Mozart Prize as well as 7 special prizes at the Belvedere Competition in Vienna. In 1990 he became a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he made his debut as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia. In 2001, Mr. Edelmann returned to Vienna and currently works as a freelance singer. Since then he has enlarged his repertoire to over 80 roles. He has recently appeared in opera and concert in Dresden, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Hamburg, Köln, Munich, Zürich, Stockholm, Liège, Bruxelles, Antwerp, Paris, Toulon, Nancy, Toulouse, Genève, Bern, Dublin, Istanbul, Athens, Tel Aviv, Moscow, Belgrade, Praha, Oviedo, Las Palmas, Madrid, San Sebastian, Bilbao, Naples, Venice, Rome, Palermo, Washington DC, Seattle, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orlando, New York, Boston, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Bejing, Shanghai, Macau, Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya, Sapporo, Kanazawa.
He also regularly appears at the Staatsoper Wien, Volksoper Wien and Opernhaus Graz. Besides his operatic career Mr. Edelmann appears in concerts and lieder recitals, his passion, around the world. He has recorded numerous CDs and DVDs. In 2005, his wife, Sylvia Saavedra Edelmann, and he co-founded the OTTO EDELMANN SOCIETY (OES). This society helps young singers, who have completed their studies, prepare for professional auditions. It is also focused upon job and career counseling. Since 2010, Mr. Edelmann has been a professor for voice at the University for Music in Vienna. Mr. Edelmann made his North American debut at the Newport Music Festival in 1990 and returns for his eleventh elevating season.
