July 19 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm$25.00
Venue: Newport Art Museum
Meet artist Ima Montoya at a special reception as she discusses her latest exhibition of paintings called “Synaesthesia” that present music as visual emotion at the Newport Art Museum. The afternoon will also feature a performance from her collaborator, award-winning cellist Asier Polo.
In neurology, Synesthesia is the condition in which one sensory experience is evoked by another. Sound may trigger taste. Numbers may be perceived in colors. In this project
music is presented as visual emotion. Music and dance have always been together. In different ways and with different tools, these two art forms achieve the same result, they touch places within ourselves that evoke memories of our existence. Similarly, when Polo and Montoya started this project, they knew they wanted to reach the same emotions with different languages, elevating one another’s work and creating an open dialog between the artists and with the individuals observing and listening to our work.
