Composer Series
The popular retrospectives of major composers continue with the 2003
Composer Series. This season, twenty-four afternoon programs will be
devoted to the complete chamber music, piano masterpieces and songs,
both well known and rare, of two of the 20th Century’s most
creative minds—Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev and French composer
Francis Poulenc. Though perhaps overshadowed by some of their more
famous countrymen, these two composers epitomize neo-Romanticism and
share a unique place in 20th Century chamber music. ###
individual pieces of their music will be performed, including the solo
piano pieces, transcriptions for other instruments, chamber works and
songs, as well as the piano concerti for two pianos.
Concert Cruises on Narragansett Bay
Enjoy a Festival tradition on the Bay Queen’s Vista Jubilee for
two splendid Narragansett Bay concert cruises, departing the dock at
Goat Island Marina Mondays on July 14 and 21 at 11 am sharp, until about
2 pm. The cruises feature a recreation of one of Dr. Malkovich’s
favorite recordings “The Art of Youra Guller, Legendary Pianist” and the
return of Hungarian pianist Klára Würtz. As always, the concert
includes a sumptuous Champagne Louis Roederer buffet lunch with
magnificent Narragansett Bay as the backdrop. Tickets are $48 per
person.

Night concert on Friday, July 11th. The improvisational

Corner,” little known works by well-known maestros, followed by the 1 pm
box lunch or optional box lunch, and then the 2 pm “Composer Series”

on the lawn of magnificent Rosecliff mansion. At 11am it’s “Olé! Olé!!,”
a program devoted to Spanish composers—at 1pm come early for your box
lunch and the “Composer Series” concert at 2 pm, featuring Poulenc’s
Wind Trio. Concerts are at 11 am followed by lunch or optional
